Problems with text message forwarding submitted 4 years ago * by keeling_ploof I recently updated my early 2013 macbook pro to yosemite and my iphone 5 to ios 8.1, but I am not getting the option to enable text message forwarding on my phone. Text Message Forwarding - No Code submitted 4 years ago by [deleted] Turning on Text Message Forwarding on my iPhone 6 says I should type in the code on my Mac — no code appears. If the activation code to set up text message forwarding is not showing up on your Mac, ensure that an email address is activated for iMessage on your iPhone. Once again, you can activate an email.
The ability to forward traditional SMS messages between the Mac and the iPhone is another huge feature to make its way to OS X Yosemite. Now that iOS 8.1 is publicly available, everyone can take advantage of this awesome new feature.
SMS Forwarding essentially makes it possible to turn the Messages app on your Mac into a full-fledged text messaging app. Not only can you compose SMS messages and stay in touch with your non-iMessage using friends, you can receive messages as well. Have a look at our video walkthrough for more details on this awesome new feature.
Just as a reminder, you must be running OS X Yosemite and iOS 8.1 to use Text Message Forwarding. iOS 8.1 released earlier today, so make sure that your iPhone is running it before proceeding. You’ll also need to make sure that you have hardware that meets Apple’s Continuity requirements.
To enable Text Message Forwarding, you must be logged in to the Messages app with the same iCloud account on your iPhone and Mac. You must also ensure that Text Message Forwarding is enabled for your Mac via Settings → Messages → Text Message Forwarding on the iPhone. Before you can start texting, you’ll need to verify your Mac via a one-time-use verification code.
Once you have everything set up properly, you’ll be able to both send and receive normal SMS messages via your Mac. SMS messages are denoted by the green bubbles that appear in the Messages app, while iMessages retain their blue hue.
What do you think about Text Message Forwarding? Is it as big of a deal to you as it is to me?

Have had the same problem. All the messages with the provided code numbers will appear as pop up screens on each device & not as texts in iMessage. Steps are:
1. Power off all devices and then restart

3. Go to Settings/General/Reset & then press Reset Network Settings. (this will unfortunately also clear the passwords for any WiFi connections) s
4. Reinput passwords for WiFi connections in Settings/WiFi
5. Turn iMessage ON in Settings/Messages
6. Press Text Message Forwarding just below this (may take a few seconds to appear after turning iMessages on)

7. Slide button on for one or all preferred devices - this will generate a opp up message on that device, enter the 6 digit code, and press ALLOW

8. Device should be connected, shown by a green slide bar. If not power down the relevant device (not the iPhone) and repeat steps.
Worked for me without a problem. Turning OFF iMessage before resetting Network Settings is the key step.
Good luck.
