Activation Code for Text Message Forwarding Does Not Appear on iPad By iAnswerGuy / December 3, 2015 December 3, 2015 Beginning with iOS 8.1, Apple introduced the Text Message Forwarding feature to allow SMS text message to be sent and received on the iPad. Connect iPhone Message to Mac: Text Message Forwarding Now we need to get your iPhone ready to send and receive text messages on Mac. To do this, we must set up text message forwarding on your iPhone. On my iPhone ( settings > message > text message forward ), I toggled off and toggle on my MacBook Pro. There is something that should be prompting on my Mac in which it should be providing me a code to properly activate the function. However it does not appear.
We love Apple’s Continuity features, including the ability to receive calls and text message from your iPhone on your Mac or iPad. If you want to automatically forward text messages to your Mac or iPad however, you first need to set it up.
Text message forwarding works great because you don’t have to actually be on your iPhone to communicate via text. Any text messages that arrives on your iPhone will automatically be forwarded to your Mac or iPad via the Messages app.

At this point, it’s akin to using instant messaging, you simply type and talk as if you’re using the phone and messages will continue to be sent and received via text.
Outlook for mac text to speech disabled. To set up text message forwarding, first open the “Settings” on your iPhone, then tap on “Messages”. Next, tap on “Text Message Forwarding” to allow text messages to “be sent and received on other devices signed in to your iMessage account.”
In this example, there are two other devices available for text message forwarding. We tap on our Mac to turn it on and we’ll next need to verify to allow this device.
On our Mac, the Messages app will display a dialog telling you that in order to send and receive iPhone text messages, you need to enter a code on your iPhone.
Similarly, a message will appear on you iPhone urging you to enter the code shown on your Mac. In this case, upon entering the code and tapping the “Allow” button, any text messages that arrive on our iPhone will also be routed to our Mac as well.
So, if we’re working on something using our Macbook, and our iPhone is in the other room, not only will be not miss any important texts that arrive, but we’ll be able to reply to them without actually using the iPhone!
If you have other devices to which you want to forward text messages, simply repeat this process for each one. On the other hand, if you want to turn off text message forwarding, then simply return to the Message settings on your iPhone and disable each or all the devices you previously allowed.
We hope you found this article helpful and will soon be taking full advantage of all the wonderful features Continuity offers. Should you have any comments or questions you would like to contribute, please leave your feedback in our discussion forum.

I wish to enable Text Message Forwarding to send and receive SMS from my MacBook Pro (running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4). I remember having used this feature for a while with both iOS 10 and iOS 11 on my iPhone. However, when I try to enable it now, I can no longer see the option available under Settings app → Messages (I'm running iOS 11.3). It used to be available previously. I have only one Apple ID which I use for everything. I am logged in with it on both my MacBook Pro and my iPhone.
Is this feature removed in iOS 11.3? I remember using it after upgrading to iOS 11. I don't recall this option requiring some other setting to be enabled in iPhone. Here's the screenshot from the Messages setting. The Text Message Forwarding option is clearly missing:
How do I resolve this issue? As I compare the screenshot from my iPhone with the one provided in the Apple knowledge base article, it appears that Show Contact Photos toggle is missing too. Are these official/documented changes in the Messages app?

Turn off iMessage on your Mac by going to Messages → Preferences → Accounts → Enable this account and turn it on again.
Now restart your iPhone and the option will show up.

For iPad users, I was able to make text forwarding re-appear by checking off my phone number in iMessage.
- On your iPad, open Settings -> Messages -> Send & Recieve.
- Make sure your phone number is checked.
- Reboot your iPhone
The message forwarding option should now be available

To add to the other answers… Another reason Text Message Forwarding may not show up, is that you simply need to activate your Apple ID email address for use with iMessage. Even if it was enabled previously, it's worth checking this again, because it's a very simple fix if this is all it is.
- Open Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.
- If your Apple ID email address is not listed, look for a button that says 'Use your Apple ID for iMessage' and tap it.
- When your email address appears, confirm that it is checked.
- Confirm that the 'Text Message Forwarding' option is now visible. If not, refresh the screen by going back to the main Settings screen, and then back into Settings > Messages.
- At this stage, your other devices may ask you if you want to use your phone number in Messages. If not, activate them under Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding.
